This Walter Murch guy (right editing sound) paints a lovely picture with one long and anthropomorphic analogy of Sound as the once great king of one's senses. I completely agree with Walter in that the prodigal-sound-returned contributes greatly to an image. I'm of the if you listen to music it has to be loud cast, and one movie experience I remember as a child, singularly relevant because of the sound editing was Jurassic Park. That movie scared the SHIT out of me and the low, almost imperceptible thud of the T-Rex approach haunted my elementary school mind for months.
